The Penguin

The Penguin is an anytime running challenge for members of the Newquay Road Runners.

This route was introduced by club member Kelly Raymont during the lockdown of early 2020. The three relays that were run around the course were well received by the membership. It seemed a shame not to make use of the artistic shape of the run which so well encapsulates the club's nickname, so we are keeping it as an anytime challenge.

Simply, this 48 mile course has been split into sections and can be run in any way that suits, from in one go, although not many will be trying this perhaps, to all thirteen sections at different times and any number in between.

There will be a published Roll of Honour for all those who complete the course in the following categories:

1. Gold Challenge: Run it in one go

2. Silver Challenge: Run it in two stages.

3. Bronze Challenge: Run it in three stages.

4. Standard Challenge: Run it in more than three stages.

Small Print

1. The challenge is open to all life, ordinary, second-claim and junior club members.

2. The route may be run in either direction, but once chosen the whole route must be completed the same way

3. Once all or any part of the course has been completed, the result, which should include the time taken can be registered with me by e-mail at rayfrith.cubert@gmail.com. I will keep a full record of all stages completed by any member.

4. Upon completion of the course, a medal of the appropriate colour will be presented on a suitable club night and the runner's name and total time will be entered into the Roll of Honour on the web site.

5. It is perfectly acceptable to run it more than once – this will be noted in the records along with the fastest time.

6. Please note that whilst this is an official club run, the challenge is taken up at the member's own risk. It is a condition of the challenge that all necessary safety measures are taken including the wearing of “high-vis” clothing where approriate. Members should be aware of other road and path users and should be courteous and respectful at all times.
