Race Report
What a weekend for our wonderful club; Athletes representing Newquay in a plethora of Marathons as well as an extended half marathon. Not to mention a Sunny Cornish Triathlon.
All of this weekend’s events had an unusual obstacle for our athletes, HEAT. After all those winter training miles getting ready for the spring marathon season, the sun came out and temperatures steadily rose throughout the day for all of our racers. Luckily most came away unscathed but many were not so fortunate with the London and Manchester marathons having to deal with large numbers of dehydrated runners.
London Marathon 2025
This years TCS Marathon was won by Kenyan Sabastian Sawe in an incredible 2:02:27
Tigst Assafa picking up a new world record in 2:15:50 in the women's race.
We had 12 runners competing and completing, in the centrepiece event of the British road running races.
First for Newquay was Matt Murt in a great time of 2:40:58 with our first lady being Rose Harvie in 3:25:01.
As well as these two we had our own ballot entries, our club has a two entry allocation which we hold a ballot for from the unsuccessful applicants, Neill Furlonger, 4:40:25 and Lisa Taper, 4:34:41
Jamie Edwards 2:44:34
Paul Florin-Trifanov 3:00:01

Sarah Strippel 4:07:29 PR

Mandy Watts 4:14:24 PB
New Forest Marathon
Lisa Player opted for a more country feel trail marathon set in the beautiful New Forest. Unfortunately for Lisa, whilst the conditions were favourable, at mile 5 she took a tumble badly bruising her knee and potentially cracking a rib too. Due to the nature of the conditions runners were able to peel off at 13.1 for a Half marathon finishers medal, which tempted many but not Lisa, although this temptation unsettled her, negatively affecting her pace further.
Nevertheless, she soldiered on and completed the race in 4:35:53 which is amazing considering the way the race panned out for her. The prize for the day was one of mental constitution and resilience.
Bodmin Beast Marathon and Beast Half
Part of the Cornish MTRS, Newquay had athletes running both disciplines. First up, the Marathon, starting 45 mins before the ‘half’ at 9am. Will Kivell was our first runner back in 4:24:36 in 11th place with Jason Elliott completing it in 4:54:25 In the big half, which constituted just under 15 miles rather than the usual 13.1, Jonny Calaco led us home in 1:46:05 finishing 5th overall and picking up 1st in his age cat. Our sole lady representative, Jenny Bowden, finished in 3:50:57
10th Neil Carter 1:48:51
76th Peter Allen 2:29:48 2nd in age cat
106th Carl Williams 2:42:39
145th John Beard 2:56:46
176th Des Evans 3:19:59 1st in age cat
Wadebridge Triathlon
Three Newquay athletes packed up their bikes, goggles and running shoes to take part in TRi Series event. Mele Kent took part in the Sprint Tri; 400m swim, 29k bike & 5k run completing it in 1:56:41, (3rd in age cat) with Amy Gregory coming in just a little after her in 2:02:20. Anna Carter took part in the super sprint Tri; 200m swim, 13.6km bike & 2.5k run and completed it in 50:46 finishing 1st in her age cat.
