IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL CUBERT 5 MILE COMPETITORS.
As you are now hopefully all aware, this years race will again finish on the school playing field. This has resulted in the 'Start' line now being a further 200 metres back down the road from its original start outside the Post Office.
To enable the continuing free flow of traffic through the village until the race starts, all runners will assemble in the Jubilee Close playing field, which is located a further 100 metres back down the road from the START. If you are making your way to the Race Assembly Area from the school, the police have requested that you do so by going via the Chynowen Parc estate and through the park; the directions will be well marked.
On reaching the main road through the village, you will then be crossed over the road at the designated crossing point by officials, and from this point to the Assembly Area, you are requested to remain on the pavements at all times. The police are very concerned for the safety of the 600 plus runners making their way to the Assembly Area whilst at the same time allowing the free movement of traffic through the village. Kindly adhere to these instructions and everyone will remain safe.
For those wishing to leave their baggage etc at the start, there will be a baggage lorry provided. Please ensure your baggage is onboard no later than 15 mins prior to the start. Your baggage can then be retrieved after you finish from the lorry which will be parked in the road adjacent to the school.
All runners are asked to line up in the field in the position which will relate to their final race position. Please do not promote yourself nearer to the front than necessary. Not only might you start getting jostled by quicker runners trying to force their way past, but you may also get pulled along at a pace far too quick for you, and you end up paying for that fast start and end up disappointed with your time. Line up in the correct area, and everyone gets away smoothly. Remember, if you are running well within yourself as you start the second lap, by then the field will have started to thin out a bit, and mile 2.5 to 4.5 are all flat or downhill, and therefore an excellent opportunity to kick on for home and a good time.
And finally, a WORD OF WARNING. Like the majority of the country, Cubert has also been blessed with the dreaded 'speed humps'. There are THREE sets of these, plus a slightly 'raised' roundabout all within the first 300 metres. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THESE AND TAKE CARE !! There are also a further three sets half way round, but by then you will be able to see these in advance.
When you have finished, please proceed as quickly as possible down the funnel and collect your memento etc.
Should you be unfortunate and fail to finish, please remember to let the results co-ordinators or an official at the finish know.
On behalf of all at Cubert School and Newquay Road Runners, we wish you all the very best of luck.
PRS.
