The Trevornick 10 is a 10 mile off-road event. Originally the course included a section on Polly Joke beach, but in 2012 this section was replaced due to the state of the tide, and the course change was made permanent.

2016 saw the 8th running of the race,  organised once again by a group of Newquay Road Runners who live in and around the area of Cubert Common and Holywell Bay, where much of the race takes place. A true multi-terrain race of approximately 10 miles, the run is made up of numerous grass tracks, sections of the North Cornwall coastal path and common land.  A beautiful course in good conditions, the Trevornick 10 provides dramatic views and potentially dramatic weather – in 2014 gale force SW winds required many additional marshals out on the course, as many of the race posts set out the day before are now understood to be in mainland Europe.  We were much luckier with the weather in 2015 & 16.

Whilst the Trevornick 10 is a genuinely challenging course, there is no intention to turn it into a “battle of survival” type event.

If you’ve not run the event before you will find over 400 metres of climbing around the route and you need to be aware that in a couple of places, you will find the course very challenging. On the plus side, what goes up must come down, so there is plenty of downhill running too. For those who have ran the race before, please note that there’s a change to the first mile, primarily to avoid the bottle neck at 500 metres, there’s also a slight alteration to the final 800 metres.

In addition to the outstanding scenery in the area (take a look in the gallery to see for yourself) you will also find that the common has a very high rabbit population: please take care not to put your foot into one of their homes, they won’t like it and your ankles might not like it either!
