It was a pleasure to witness last evening’s 5000m county championships on the track at Par.
Well done to the 6 penguins who enjoyed the event and were a credit to the club and themselves.

DUCHY ATHLETIC NETWORK (DAN) 5K COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Cornwall County 5000m Track Championships were held at the Par Track on the 24th May and 53 made it to the finish of which 6 were representing Newquay Road Runners. The conditions were ideal, warm with a light breeze.
In the men’s race Jordan Clay, Cornwall AC, won the men’s title after making his intentions clear from the start, where he took the lead from the off and was never troubled. His time of 15 minutes 23 seconds equates to an average pace of 4.57 per mile. The ladies race was won by Jordan’s club colleague and in-form Heidi Tregenza with a 16.59 which placed her 11th overall.
Leading the Newquay contingent home was Chris Walker in 18.55 which placed him 5th in the 45-49 category, Steve Babb was 2nd male 50-54 in 19.16, Peter Allen was the 1st male 60-64 runner home in 21.36, Eleanor Dixon, having her first 5K outing on the track, ran well to win the female 40-44 category in a very respectable time of 21.42, Tracy McKenzie was the only other female Newquay representative and she also ran well finishing in 23.48 which placed her second in the female 40-44 category, Mike Kestle still performing well over a variety of distances won the male 65-69 category in 23.55
