TYWARDREATH TROTTER – SATURDAY 29TH JULY 2017
Report by Paul Wright
ALEX DANIELS GOOD FORM CONTINUES
The Tywardreath Trotter was the 1st race of the 2016/17 Cornwall Multi Terrain GP and took place last Saturday evening starting at The New Inn, Tywardreath. There were 335 finishers of which 10 were representing Newquay Road Runners.
The course is a challenging one, even when conditions are favourable, of which 50% is off-road and is a distance of approximately 7 miles. In view of the inclement weather in the lead up to the event and on the night, there were times when the athletes were knee deep in mud. The race was won in an excellent time, when one considers the difficult conditions, of 41 minutes 22 seconds by North Wales Road Runner Michael Corrales. Once again, Alex Daniels led the Newquay contingent home and was 9th overall in a very credible time of 44.48. Daniels was 3rd in the 40-49 male category. The Newquay men’s team of Daniels, Gregg Hooper, Steve Dale and Peter Allen were 9th, with Allen also picking up 2nd in the male 60-69 category.
The ladies race was won East Cornwall Harrier, Helen Morse, in 53.22 which placed her 51st overall. Leading the Newquay ladies home was Ali Potter in 61.55 with her training partner Louise Gore just 2 seconds further back. The Newquay Ladies team of Potter, Gore, Tracy McKenzie and Sarah Hill were placed 5th ladies team.
